Welcome at Indonesia Calling.
Fifty years ago, at 17th of august 1945, the independence of the
Republic Indonesia was proclaimed by Soekarno. This made the colonizers
of the area, in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, not happy.
Thousands of soldiers from the Netherlands (and some from the colonies
in de West) were sent to the area to assist the colonial army in
defeating the rebels.
They failed.
Indonesia Calling is the title of a documentary film made by
Joris Ivens in support of the struggle of
the Indonesian people for independence.
This menu on this Digital City projekt in The Hague is called Indonesia
Calling too. Because that's what it is: a way to communicate between
Holland and Indonesia. And because it wants to show solidarity with
the struggle for freedom in Indonesia.
